General Patton
George Patton (1885-1945) was the first person in the military assigned to the recently created U.S. Army Tank Corporation during World War I.Over the next several decades he was promoted throughout the military until he reached the climax of his career while in World War II, when he led the U.S. 7th Army in its invasion of Sicily and northern France at the head of the 3rd Army in the summer of 1944. Later in the same year, Patton's forces played a key role in defeating the Germans when he led them across the Rhine River and into Germany, gaining control of thousands miles of territory and freed the country from the government. Patton died in Germany in December 1945 from getting injured in a car accident.
